Work Experience
BVLOS Operations Manager, BNSF Railway, Ft. Worth, Texas. Responsible for planning and scheduling of testing operations (for aircraft as well as detect-and-avoid system components) to achieve Beyond Visual Line-of-Sight (BVLOS) operational capability and regulatory approval for BNSF Railway's large and small UAS activities. Oversaw deployment, maintenance, and upgrade of BVLOS infrastructure and supporting systems. Through these efforts, since 2016, BNSF has received from the FAA multiple "true" BVLOS flight authorities (no visual observers required anywhere); these include a National Class G Airspace authority (under Part 91) to fly a large UAS over BNSF-owned linear infrastructure and a Part 107 waiver/exemption to pre-flight and fly small UAS from docks (i.e., a "drone in a box") remotely over BNSF property nationwide.
